Payment for Interns

Please note: Internships are very often unpaid.

There are internships in hospitality available where it could be possible to get money, but you have to show work experience in your field.

Internship New Zealand will search for an employer willing to pay a reasonable wage – this will not be guaranteed.

 

Visa requirements / Eligibility:

a) You must be a full-time student at a tertiary institution (college/university etc) who is required to undertake a practical work experience as part of the course. (NO AGE LIMIT) (It is necessary to proof that you MUST DO relevant work WITHIN YOUR STUDY to finalise the course – Please provide a letter from your university / institute stating this requirement and duration of internship.) OR

b) You hold a Working Holiday Visa.


Duration

The internship period is usually for up to 6 months but can be longer if required. At the end of the internship period, if both the employer and the intern request an extension for a further six months, this is likely to be approved.

a) Work permit lasts for up the time your university or educational institute recommend an internship. You will need a letter written by your University or College. Participants can remain in New Zealand as tourists for up to 3 months after their work permit expires. Participants from some countries will need to apply for a tourist visa.

b) Work permit lasts regarding your Working Holiday Visa or

 

Total Programme Placement Fee:

4-12 weeks: A$ 1650

13-26 weeks: A$ 2000

6-12 months: A$ 2500

(Cancellation Fees apply)

 

Additional Costs:

  • Insurance fee
  • Visa application fee (which is payable to the Immigration Department)
  • return flight
  • translation of documents
  • accommodation and other living cost e.g. food, public transport etc.: approx 1,200 – 1,500 NZ$ per months
